There are lots of environmentally focused films and books,
so I will just highlight a few here. It is worth noting that downloading films
and music to store electronically is better than buying DVDs or the like, as
downloads do not need any manufacturing or distribution. Books are a bit of a
pain to read on-screen, at least until screen technology improves, so buying
secondhand is the best for the moment.
If you want new books, there are lots to choose from in
the shop, with titles ranging from ‘The Little
Green Book of Big Green Ideas’ to ‘Timber Frame Construction’. There are also
some CDs and DVDs, some of which are actually worth considering. Otherwise your
local charity shop, car boot sale, fair, Ebay or Amazon are the best places for
secondhand books, DVDs etc.
An interesting film event is the Wildscreen Festival, which rewards environmental or wildlife films and happens
in Bristol every 2 years (evens).
Green Planet Films have a huge range of environmental films to campaign,
educate and entertain. The Environmental Media Fund could be a useful resource if you want to make a film yourself.
What to do
I think most people would lose the will to live if I
actually wrote anything here, so I won’t. Well OK, I have now, but just to tell
you that I’m not writing anything, which doesn’t count, does it?
